Where is a good discount broker solely for trading options?

I have a good barebones one I use for stocks (sogotrade). No options or anything else though.

Bottom line for me is reliability and fee structures on options. Advanced features and resources aren’t what I’m looking for. Margin loan rates don’t matter also as I never borrow money anyways.

I’m into stock options but 2 other things I am looking for in a much lesser way are free manageable DRIP program on stocks if offered through them and commodity trading as well. (futures contracts).

try Tradeking I hear they are 4.95 per trade and something like 45 cents per contract.
Other places are charging 3 or more dollars for contracts plus there outrageous trade prices.

anyone know good broker on commodities?

Lind-Waldock is a pretty well-known retail commodities broker in the industry. I worked on a stock desk and when clients would call about commodities, which we did not trade, we would always refer them to Lind-Waldock. I never heard any complaints. I've included the link. Happy trading!

Heard on radio a man say he was a stock broker who specialized in "futures"?I thought "futures only applied…

to commodities. That is what, if anything distinguishes a "futures" stock from a regular stock?

A futures contract is simply an agreement to trade a specific item at a specific time in the future for a specific price. While that specific item has traditionally been a commodity, it does not have to be. There have been futures contracts on stock indexes for a long time. More recently futures contracts on individual stocks have started trading.

I suspect the man on the radio meant that he was both a stock and futures broker, currently specializing in futures. However, it is also possible he meant he speciealized in ETFs that simulate commodity prices by trading futures. An example of such an ETF would be USO.

Although an ETF is technically not a stock, since they trade on stock exchanges (and have the same trading requirements as stocks) it is not uncommon to see people use the word "stock" instead of "ETF" when they actually mean an exchange traded fund.

Beware Of The Typical Forex Trading Scam

It’s very easy for new forex trading investors to get taken in by some sort of forex scam or another. This can include just about any idea under the sun that scammers can come up with. Usually the realm of forex scams can include, software and e-books that âguarantee’ a profit in the forex market, an unscrupulous market maker that spikes costumer accounts so they can get their fees, general false advertising, and even those with fake sites that just take your money and disappear.

The nature of the currency market tends to leave new investors vulnerable to such scams, simply because it fluctuates a lot and little is known about the market by the general population. It’s up to investors to educate themselves on forex trading, just as they would before making any other investment if they expect to do well. This includes being aware of common scams. In 2001 the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) released nine tips investors in the forex market should keep in mind when looking for a broker:

â¢ Stay Away From Opportunities That are Too Good To Be True

â¢ Avoid Any Company that Predicts or Guarantees Large Profits

â¢ Stay Away From Companies That Promise Little or No Financial Risk

â¢ Be Wary of Trading on Margin Unless You Know What That Means

Many forex scams, as is common with other types of scams, rely on getting dollar signs to appear in their victims eyes in order to pull off the scam. If at any point in the decision making process you start to feel yourself getting overly excited by the prospect of making what seems like easy money, then set your plans aside for the time being and come back to them later. You’ll be much calmer and in a better position to decide if the broker or deal you are interested in is really worth it.

One of the most common scams simply involves selling a product or system online that will âguaranteed’ make you profits in forex trading. Be careful of online advertisements for these products, after all most of them contain information about the forex market that you can obtain by reading any other book on forex trading. It will give you information on the forex market if you are doing research, but it probably won’t give you the guaranteed secret to success.

Should I get involved with a commodity broker who had a judgement against him from the NFA?

In the middle of changing careers. Working to earn my Series 3 certification to broker futures. I'm VERY excited to get into this new career. Found an opportunity with a brokerage that is expanding in my area.

Interviewed with the guy, seemed really straight forward. Wasn't pressuring me, nothing I have to do on my end to get started…He preached ethics big time, explained some of the schemes some people will pull to bring in big commissions, he's completely against those methods. He mentioned that he had a customer at a previous brokerage he worked at file a complaint against him. He siad it was a really bad experience, the guy said he told him something he never told him, etc.

Searching the net, found the case on the NFA's website. He was found guilty, and his punishment was a $5,000 fine, and 3 months suspension.

Should I even think twice about getting involved with this guy? How do I research this to make sure it is really going to be a good opportunity?

Thank you Dom. Yes I would be doing my own work. I would be working from home, the brokerage has a pretty decent IT network setup, so you can get into the network from home and do everything that way.

No I don't see what happened affecting me in any way. When we met, he made Ethics a big priority with him, he made that point repeatedly. He was also pretty straight forward about the earnings potential…i.e. you're not going to get rich overnight, you have to do lots and lots of homework to make it, expect to make about 60-70k average tops maybe 120k, he even went so far as to say you can make more than that but then you're likely not doing things for the benefit of your customer and won't be able to feel good with yourself when you go to bed at night.

He also said the brokerage he was involved with was shady, and from what he said before I found this, he did seem like he kinda just got caught up in something. I just don't know if this is some unheard of thing, or fairly common?

Sure. You can go with him but I would want more money than what another place would offer you. I am sure that he realizes that he has to pay more too. The nice thing is that he told you up front. To me it seems he might not be a bad guy, he just maybe made a mistake or was caught in a bad situation.

Really it shouldn't affect you that much. But I can't really say since I don't know what exactly he did but how would his actions affect you as a broker? You will be doing your own work, right?.

Which is the best online broker that will let you take delivery of commodities futures like for Gold futures?

How does it work if you want to get it delivered to your house or something?

All brokers must allow you to take delivery because that condition is in the terms of the contract. All futures "contracts" spell out these terms.

Each commodity has a specified delivery point, or several, like oil delivery can be accepted in K.C., MO or Cushing,OK.

You can get delivery, but it will certainly not be to your front door. I have a friend that accepted delivery on gold, and he hired a bonded (and armded) guard to accompany him from the CBOT to the bank for deposit.
